In Amsterdam, the second conference on the role of microorganisms in women’s health took place. The main focus was on the reproductive system microbiome.
Scientists emphasized that a healthy microbiome protects women against infections and inflammation, and may prevent recurrent urinary tract infections. Research was also presented showing that a disturbed microbiome can be one of the factors leading to premature birth, making it difficult to conceive, or hindering successful embryo implantation after in vitro fertilization.
